We occasionally have pet
and show prospect puppies available to the right homes. We are as selective in our choice
of homes as we are in our choice of breeding stock. We feel responsible for all our puppies throughout their lives and want to ensure that they'll be well cared for, secure, and loved until
the end of their days.
Our goal in breeding is
to produce Chow Chows of high quality that meet our vision of the ideal Chow as described in the AKC
breed standard. Since we keep many of the dogs we breed, we are as concerned about health and temperament as you are.
We evaluate and grade our puppies
around the age of 12 weeks. We define "show prospect" as a puppy
that
with appropriate training and care should be able to complete its AKC conformation championship and that we would be proud
to show ourselves. Show prospects are only offered to established show
families or people who've demonstrated a sincere desire to show their dogs and understand the
commitment of time and money the sport requires.
The difference between
our show prospects and our pet puppies is largely cosmetic. Can you tell which of the
puppies on this page grew up to be show prospects and which were placed as pets? Probably not. In litters bred for quality,
the difference in appearance between show prospects and pets is slight. Dog shows are beauty contests; winning in close competition can depend on such minor matters as size of ears, shape of feet, and set of tail. Our pet puppies are those that we feel wouldn't be as competitive in the show
ring.
Our pet puppies are sold
with the same health warranties as the show prospects. Puppies are warranted against the
development of crippling hip or elbow dysplasia and also against poor temperament. Our pet puppies are not intended
for breeding; your pet puppy will either have been spayed or neutered prior to sale, or you will be required to have your
puppy altered by a specified date.
The most
common colors we produce are red and black. It's unlikely that we'll have creams,
cinnamons, or
blues, at least in the near future. All our Chows are rough coated;
we don't anticipate having any smooth puppies.
If you would like a puppy
from us, we ask that you be flexible in your choice of color, age, and gender. Murphy's Law
says that if your heart is set on a red male, all we'll have at the time are black females! We rarely let our puppies go
before 12 weeks of age and we sometimes have well-socialized adolescents and adults available. A good tempered,
well-socialized Chow can adjust to a new home at any age and may even fit into your lifestyle better than a young
puppy.
We feel very responsible
for the future well-being of our dogs, therefore we're selective in our choice of homes for them. We
want to get to know you before we place a dog with you, just as you'll want to get to know us, and we want to give you a
dog that will suit your personality and lifestyle. The better we can match you with the right puppy, the
happier your long term relationship will be. We do not ship dogs to
buyers sight unseen. Unless you can provide references from people we
know, we expect you to come here to meet us and pick up your new Chow in person. Homes with fenced yards are preferred.
Since our kennel is
small, we can only produce a couple litters a year. We don't have puppies available all the time. We
seldom promise puppies in advance because we don't know until they're born and have done some growing exactly what we'll
be offering for sale. We realize this can be frustrating if you want a puppy right now, but remember that your new Chow
will be an intimate member of your family for at least 10 to 12 years. It's worth waiting for the right one!
